Hawaiian Idylls

0 °F

We’ve now left the Hawaiian Islands behind, and though it doesn’t sound right to us Northerners, we are still sailing in the North Pacific!
On Tuesday we anchored in the harbor of Lahaina in Maui. We soaked up the Hawaiian sunshine and warm ocean waters at Kaanapali beach. Did some shopping (of course) back in town and then took the ship’s tender back to the Statendam, our home for these 28 days.

Hästa Does Hilo

0 °F

Our day in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii today was rainy (not surprising, since they get almost 140 inches of rain a year!).We walked in the warm Hawaiian rain for almost 5 miles, into the town of Hilo (pop. 42,000) and around the streets where the locals live. The black sand along the shore and the huge Banyan trees were awesome.
We bought flowers for our room at the outdoor market- $5 for a stunning tropical arrangement!
